The Discoid Cockroach (Blaberus Discoiclales), also commonly referred to as "The False Death's Head Cockroach" is native to the tropics of South America. But can be commonly found from Southern Mexico to Mid-South America. They can grow up to 3" in length and although the adults have wings, they are not able to fly or climb smooth surfaces, such as glass. These two characteristics make them easy to raise in either a Rubbermaid container or Glass Aquarium. The markings on the back of the head are what give them the name False Dealth's Head, since it appears to be something like a vampire symbol to many people. As well they do resemble the actual Dealth's Head Cockroach in appearance. Roaches in general are a better food source, for most lizards and other small animals over the alternative crickets. They have less chitlin than crickets, live longer, and generally have more protein for the age and size comparatiively. Based on the size and weight of Discoids, they are the perfect food source for Tarantuals, Bearded Dragons, and all Medium Size Lizards. They have less odor than crickets, live longer, and can be substantially bigger with less chitlin and more protein...causing less blockage possibilities. Discoids will live an average of 1 1/2 years. They reach their final molt and are of breeding age at 6 months. The justation of a birthing cycle is approximately 23 days. Females will carry their eggs in a pocket on the back of their abdomen until they hatch.
